SNP Deputy Leader Visits Keenan Recycling HQ

SNP's Deputy Leader, Stewart Hosie MP, and local candidate, Gillian Martin, at Keenan Recycling

We welcomed SNP’s Deputy Leader, Stewart Hosie MP and local candidate for Aberdeenshire East, Gillian Martin, to our headquarters at New Deer on Monday 2 May. The visit coincided with SNP’s ambitious plans for the rural economy, and to highlight its pledge for 1,000 accredited living wage employers.

We became an accredited Living Wage employer in 2015 when we were inspired to comply with the standard following the Scottish Government’s statements on tackling poverty and the Living Wage.

Technical director, Gregor Keenan, gave Mr Hosie and Ms Martin a tour of the site, and detailed the company’s ambitious plans for work in both in Scotland and England throughout 2016.

Following the visit, Mr Hosie MP, said: “SNP is the only political party with an ambitious and credible plan for the rural economy. With plans to improve connectivity and supporting jobs, growth and opportunity, we’re the only party putting the rural economy front and centre.

“Supporting businesses to grow is really important – and we want to make sure that working people share in that success. That’s why we’ve made the real living wage a priority over the last few years and why a re-elected SNP Scottish Government will double the number of living wage accredited employers by autumn 2017.”

Mr Keenan added:

“We have been delighted with the continued support we have received from the Scottish Government since the launch of our commercial food waste collection scheme in Aberdeen and Aberdeenshire in 2010.

We have ambitious plans for 2016 as we continue our work to help companies meet targets set out in The Waste (Scotland) Regulations. As the business grows, so too will job opportunities, and we look forward to welcoming more members of staff to the team as we continue our work in Scotland and further afield.”
