A leading North-east organics recycling company has made a key appointment to strengthen its services after the introduction of new food waste regulations.
Keenan Recycling, based in New Deer, has appointed Andy Gunn as transport and logistics manager, following the launch of The Waste (Scotland) Regulations, at the start of the year.
The new regulations, requires all businesses producing more than 50kg of food waste per week to separate this from landfill waste. By January 2016, any businesses producing more than just 5kg of food waste per week will need to recycle it.
The recycling company, which transforms in excess of 50,000 of food and garden waste into compost for farming and horticultural use, has seen its food waste customers across the North-east and Inverness double to 1000 in under two months.
Keenan Recycling launched its commercial food waste collection scheme in 2010 to help businesses divert food waste away from landfill, and operates a fleet of six specialist food waste lorries. Each bespoke low emission vehicle enables the company to collect an additional 2000 tonnes of waste per year.
Mr Gunn, 45, has 20 years experience in the transport and logistics industry, and will use his experience to oversee the operation of the fleet of lorries and drivers at the £8million award-winning site. He said:
“I have worked with a number of companies in the past, and I am skilled in a number of different areas. I will use my broad knowledge and experience of the industry in my role to maximise routes and efficiencies to ensure we continue to deliver a first-class service to our customers.”
Keenan Recycling managing director, Grant Keenan, said:
“As disposing of waste through landfill sites becomes an increasingly expensive option, more companies are choosing to recycle, and there has been a huge increase in demand for our services since the new regulations came into force.
Andy has vast experience in the sector and his appointment is key to the company as our client base continues to grow.”
