A leading North-east organics recycling company is celebrating after winning a prestigious accolade at environmental awards held in Glasgow.
Keenan Recycling, of New Deer, Aberdeenshire, successfully secured the transport award at this year’s Vision in Business for the Environment of Scotland (VIBES) Awards.
The annual awards, which are Scotland’s leading environmental award scheme, aim to recognise businesses that take significant measures to improve or reduce their impact on the environment.
The specialist organics firm, which currently processes more than 60,000 tonnes of organic waste per year at its £8million award-winning facility, has significantly invested in its specialist fleet of lorries in the last year, and uses bespoke low emission vehicle to collect an additional 2000 tonnes of waste per year.
The firm, which transforms food and garden waste into BSI accredited soil improver for agriculture and horticulture use, has doubled its customer base to more than 1400 since new food regulations came into force in January.
Andy Gunn, Transport and logistics Manager, Keenan Recycling, said:
“We are absolutely delighted to have won the transport award at this year’s VIBE awards. As a company, we are truly committed to safeguarding the environment and helping businesses and local authorities to improve their environmental initiatives. This year, we have significantly invested in our fleet of lorries, in order to reduce emissions and environmental impact of our services.
Winning the award is great recognition and a huge morale boost for the entire Keenan Recycling team for their commitment to the environment and our drive towards zero waste.”
Gillian Bruce, Chair of the VIBES Awards, commented:
“Each of our winners deserve credit for the work they are doing to improve their company’s bottom line through sustainable practices. The VIBES judges were consistently impressed by the lengths that the winning companies have gone to in order to put environmentally responsible practices at the centre of their business operations.”
Keenan Recycling, which was first launched in 2003, has signed up to Scotland’s Resource Sector Commitment; a Scottish Government-backed initiative designed to set consistent standards for business waste collections and to help deliver the country’s zero waste targets.
