A North-east organics recycling company has won a prestigious award in recognition of their outstanding contribution to waste management.
Keenan Recycling, based in New Deer, Aberdeenshire, scooped the winning spot in the waste & resources category in the Vision in Business for the Environment of Scotland (VIBES) awards.
The VIBES awards recognises companies that have taken significant steps to reduce their impact on the environment.
Managing Director, Grant Keenan, said:
“We are delighted to receive recognition in the VIBES awards as it highlights our commitment to reducing our carbon footprint. Not only does being green as a business support the environment but it can also boost your bottom-line. We now aim to build on this achievement by further expanding on green credentials. This is also a great credit to the team at Keenan Recycling, for their ongoing commitment to the business and the environment.”
Keenan Recycling, which was vying for the award against another five finalists, transforms food and garden waste from local Scottish authorities and North-east businesses into British Standard Industry (BSI) accredited compost at its award-winning £5m facility.
The firm recently launched a £1.3million expansion in its food waste division, making it the largest vertical composting unit site in the world, jointly with a site in Canada.
More than 70,000 tonnes of organic waste is recycled at the site per year.
