Resource Management

Keenan (Recycling) Ltd owns and operates a fully licensed facility located just outside New Deer, north Aberdeenshire. Our site is designed to provide green solutions to the problem of waste in the North East of Scotland. Diverting organic materials from landfill is both environmentally sound and helps Local Authorities meet their recycling targets. The materials we process become fully recycled high quality end products that can be used to benefit local communities from where it originated. The nine acre site has an asphalt entrance leading to over 10,000m² of concrete ensuring easy access all year round by any vehicle from hook-lifts to ejectors.

Food Waste Recycling
Under carefully managed conditions, all organic material can be composted to produce a nutrient rich soil improver. Keenan Recycling has invested over £3 million in a state of the art “in-vessel” composting facility to compost food scraps from householders in Aberdeen City. The facility can also accept source segregated food scraps, processing residuals etc from the Private Sector.

Green Waste Recycling
We presently recycle green waste from Aberdeen City Council via SITA, Moray Council, Aberdeenshire Council and several private contractors. We operate an open-air turned windrow technique at our facility, composting in excess of 25,000 tonnes of green waste every year. All of the compost grades produced at our facility are BSI PAS100 compliant.

PAS100 compliance ensures that not only does the end product pass analytical standards but also that the processing regime ensures that the quality is consistently high. The intensive level of monitoring and record keeping also means that all compost products leaving the site can be traced to the batch they came from, providing information about the level of maturity and the feedstocks. PAS100 compliance is the benchmark required by the Scottish Environment Protection Agency to demonstrate that certified compost is a fully recycled product.

Wood Waste Recycling
We also recycle in excess of 3,000 tonnes of clean untreated timber every year. This consists of pallets, packaging and source separated timber. The wood undergoes several specially developed shredding, screening and magnetic separation techniques to produce high quality woodshred products including our equestrian arena surface ‘EQUISHRED’™.
